How the math works

Your weekly missed calls become a monthly number. We keep only the share that are genuinely new customers, because counting suppliers and wrong numbers would hand you a figure you would rightly ignore. What is left gets multiplied by how often you win a job after actually speaking to someone, and then by what an average job is worth to you.

The reason the result is also shown in jobs is that money can feel abstract. Jobs do not. When someone has water coming through a ceiling they do not leave a voicemail and wait, they call the next number on the list. The business that picks up wins the work, and it is rarely about being the better contractor.

Every input here is yours and every one of them is adjustable. If a number looks wrong, change it. The point is not to produce a scary figure, it is to produce a figure you actually believe.

Common questions

How do you work out the cost of a missed call?
Missed calls per week become a monthly figure, then we keep only the share that are genuinely new customers rather than suppliers or wrong numbers. That number is multiplied by the rate at which you normally win a job once you speak to someone, then by what an average job is worth to you. Every input is yours, so the answer is yours.
Why does the calculator assume some missed calls are not customers?
Because assuming all of them are would give you a number you would not believe, and should not. Some calls are suppliers, some are wrong numbers, some are the same person calling twice. The default keeps roughly six in ten as real prospects, and you can move it.
What happens to a call you miss?
For anything urgent, most people do not leave a voicemail. They hang up and call the next business on the list, and whoever answers gets the job. That is why the result is shown as jobs rather than only as money.

If the number bothers you, the fix is not hiring someone to sit by the phone. It is having every call answered, day or night, and the job booked while the customer is still on the line.
